Thanks for your interest in Measure,
a journal dedicated to publishing the best metrical, English-language
verse from both the United States and abroad. Measure
was begun in spring 2005 by Paul Bone and Robert Griffith in response
to the demise of The
Formalist, a journal which helped renew and sustain interest
in formal poetry.
Measure,
as an biannual journal, has a mission not only to publish the best
new poetry from both established and emerging writers, but also
to reprint a small sampling of poems from the best books of metrical
poetry published the previous year. Likewise, each issue will
include interviews with some of our most important contemporary
poets and also offer short critical essays on the poetry that
has helped to shape the craft.
Funding for Measure was provided by generous
grants from the University of Evansville and from the Ball
Brothers Foundation of Muncie, for the Venture Fund, a program
administered by the Independent
Colleges of Indiana (ICI) for the benefit of Indiana’s
independent colleges and universities. ICI is a nonprofit association
representing Indiana’s 31 nonprofit, accredited, undergraduate
degree-granting institutions of higher education. On behalf of
its member colleges and universities, ICI engages in public policy
advocacy, corporate and foundation fundraising, public information
and research, administration of the Lilly Endowment, Inc. Community
Scholars Program, and development of collaborative services.
Sincerely,
The Editors
